Ignition distributor, distributor cap and distributor finger

In engines with more than one cylinder, the ignition distributor is used to trigger the ignition spark through the ignition contact and to distribute the current surges from the ignition coil to the spark plugs. This is done via the distributor finger and the distributor cap. The ignition capacitor dampens the breakaway spark between the breaker contacts and thus enables an optimal ignition spark.
