My first car

We got these beautiful old pictures from Peter Lührs, our colleague's father. A Fiat 600 was his first car back then. Unfortunately there are no photos of the original car, but there are many wonderful memories;

"My first car was a Fiat 600, built in 1959, first-hand for 1400.00 DM. The previous owner was a community nurse from Geesthacht, who had driven 34,000 km on short journeys in 5 years, the mother of a colleague. Both fenders were rusted through , otherwise everything was okay.
I was 17 years old and got my driver's license, which I was given when I turned 18.

I had bought the Fiat before and had already done test drives with the help of my father, who had motorcycle and car experience before the war.
The Fiat should be welded and repainted. Rust welding was difficult and there was little money. Still, I found a distant relative who could do that.
The first trip was to Amsterdam with friends. My co-driver took over from me and opened the driver's door while driving! It slammed backwards and damaged the newly painted body, because the door wasn't mounted in the front but in the middle of the car - and that was already unusual back then ... Fortunately the rest of the trip went without any further incidents. "

On the photos we see Peter with his next car, a Fiat 1100 and on a joyride in his Beetle convertible. We were very happy about the text and the pictures! If you have special Fiat photos or stories you would like to share with us, we look forward to hearing from you!
