Awakened from its slumber

Pasquale tells the story of a very special heirloom:

"The journey of my Fiat 500 starts in April 1970. At that time, my grandfather from Puglia bought the Fiat from another villager. He himself rarely drove the 500 because he was a guest worker living in Germany and was only there in the summer.  The car was more for my grandmother, who lived there with her four little daughters.
Years passed and in the late 80's my grandfather's family moved to Germany. The Fiat remained in the garage in Italy.

So the journey of the little one was interrupted for about 25 years. In fact, the car was not moved at all during that time. It stood in my grandfather's garage and served as a storage area for tools.
The years went by and one morning my mother handed me the phone and said: "Your grandfather wants to talk to you". He informed me that he was thinking of giving me the car. Because I am an automotive mechatronics engineer and I know something about cars....

Two years later, when it was financially possible with the help of my fiancée, we had the car restored in Italy (Carovigno, Brindisi). We wanted to leave it there to the professionals who have years of experience with these models.

In my Fiat we tried to save what was original, for example, engine and valve block, wiring harness and fuel tank. Inside could be steering wheel, instrument cluster. Dashboard, windshields and seat frames could be preserved.
On the chassis, we were able to keep the rims, which we had sandblasted, repowdered and painted. We only redid the springs, shocks and bearings here.
Otherwise everything was restored down to the last bolt. The engine is a bit tuned and has a more pointed camshaft and the carburetor from the Fiat 500 R. The restoration took about a year and in May 2021 we had it transported here to Wolfsburg. Then in June 2021 it rolled for the first time on German roads. Unfortunately, my grandfather could not witness this, but I'm sure I could steal a smile from him from down here.
The vehicle is dedicated to him. By Pasquale Magli for Pasquale Lanzilotti."

We are thrilled by this incredible restoration achievement and wish Pasquale a lot of fun with this gem! If you want to stay up to date, be sure to follow them on Instagram at @nuevofiat500 !
