A Dream Team and its first Grand Tour

Thomas tells us today about his trip to Italy:

"'That's me with Luigi, my Fiat Cinquecento (500L) We both have the same year of construction, namely 1970. Since August 2019, we have been making the roads unsafe together....
Luigi came to Germany from Italy in 2018 and was retrofitted for the German TÜV and registration with, among other things, a hazard warning light. Otherwise, it is largely in its original condition, especially with regard to bodywork and engine.
I then carried out small embellishments, so in spring 2021 the chrome bars typical of the L-model were fitted to the bumpers, the rims and tyres were renewed, and the seats were reupholstered and covered. Luigi has been made "pretty", so to speak, to look "bella figura" in Italy.

As a self-confessed fan of Lake Como in northern Italy, there was no question in my mind that a trip there with Luigi was a must. True to the motto "the journey is the destination".
Since we didn't want to do everything in one day, we planned a total of 9 days for the tour. 3 days there, 3 days at Lake Como and 3 days back. We set off on 25 May, but first we had to stow our luggage. It reminded me a little of playing Tetris.
he first stop - due to the still existing ban on tourist accommodation in Germany - was in Switzerland, near Schaffhausen. A great little B&B, and it turned out that the owner is also a lover of old cars.
The second stage took us across Switzerland to the vicinity of Chur. From here, on the third day of the outward journey, we travelled via Via Mala and the Splügen Pass to Lake Como. There Luigi was able to relax a little and was taken across the lake by ferry, much to the delight of his fellow travellers.
On Lake Como, smaller tours to beautiful places were the order of the day, including a visit to the Aero Club in Como. Here seaplanes take off for a sightseeing flight over the lake.
After 3 days at the lake, we headed for Bad Ragaz in Switzerland in bright weather. This time two alpine passes were conquered at the same time, after the Maloja Pass we went up to the Julier Pass at almost 2,300 metres. If you go up the pass at the front of the queue, it's not so bad.
From Bad Ragaz - a small town worth seeing, by the way - we went back to the B&B near Schaffhausen on the second day of the return journey.
Since every great tour - or in this case adventure - comes to an end, we returned to Saarbrücken on the last day of the tour. The stage took us over the Feldberg/Titisee first to Freiburg to meet another Luigi. This was followed by a short detour to the Kaiserstuhl with a small photo shoot."
